With the 2CD FTD
“Raised On Rock”, Ernst Jorgenson may have
delivered the very best classic FTD release
ever. The Stax session have always been special
to many fans, and with this double CD, the
collector’s label is really spoiling us. Listen
to Elvis as he works on the numbers until he’s
satisfied (or not), hear him give instructions,
hear him laugh, curse, comment… Even “It’s
Different Now”, earlier released on the 5 CD set
The Seventies Masters sounds different here,
with Elvis talking over the instrumental part of
the song. Other tracks of interest are the
instrumental versions of “The Wonders You
Perform”, “Color My Rainbow” and “Good Bad But
Beautiful”. Sadly, Elvis left the Stax studio in
a fit of anger when he discovered that his
microphone was stolen. With Elvis back at
Graceland, the musicians killed the time by
recording these tracks, hoping for Elvis to
return – which he didn’t. We’ll never hear
Elvis’s version, but to give you at least an
idea of the vocals, click the link below to hear
Ronnie Hilton’s version of “Good Bad But
Beautiful”
